Happy New Year! GET WRITING!

2012 has been such an amazing year for me, there were author visits all over the UK including some children's hospitals, I took part in my first literacy festival, I started teaching creative writing to grown ups, the release of Noah Ramsbottom and the Great Gold Robbery as an E-book and Sam Marsh and the Battle of the Cloudships (which has gone into libraries and book stores all over the world!), I started work on some really exciting new projects and continued with some old favourites!
2013 looks like it going to be even more brilliant! More author visits already booked, teaching weekends for the FSC organised and book signings arranged. Jacob's War will finally be published. And if I get a spare minute I'll do some writing!
I'd like to thank everyone who I've had the pleasure of working with in 2012 (I've met some amazing people) everyone who came to library and festival events and book signings, everyone who wrote to or emailed me, and especially everyone who bought a book! But most of all I'd like to thank my fantastic friends and family and my amazing wife, Kristen! None of this would be remotely possible without her!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! GET WRITING!

URGENT! Please love the Romanian Underdogs!

Please love the Romanian Underdogs!

THIS IS URGENT!

Last week the staff at Romanian Underdogs discovered an abandoned illegal kill shelter in Romania, and out of the 200 dogs left there to die a slow death, only 47 were still alive.

Although the shelters supported by this organisation already have over 500 dogs in their care, they made space for the 47 poor souls!

I will be interviewing the angels at Love Underdogs and writing an article in the New Year, but please go to their website and make a donation, every gift no matter how small, makes a big difference!

Send just 5 Euros to make a Spanish Greyhound warm this winter!

Please take a moment to send just 5 Euros to make a Spanish Greyhound warm this winter!

Spanish Greyhounds or Galgos are some of the most badly treated dogs on the planet, but just 5 Euros will buy a cold dog a warm coat this winter!

Please send 5 Euros! Or more if you can afford it. It makes a massive difference to a life!

Why Give Your Child A Book This Christmas?

Why Give Your Child A Book This Christmas? My article in The Yorkshire Times.

Wonderful Whithorn children's work!

Some of the work done by children in Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland on a recent author visit.

Noah Ramsbottom and Tiggleplod pushed open door number six and saw a planet with buildings made on stilts and then they suddenly stopped!

Noah Ramsbottom steps into a door and is in the WAR! With Itler!

Noah Ramsbottom and Coolplod pushed open door number 3002 and saw thousands and thousands of horses, there were all different horses like showjumpers, showing horses, racehorses and sprinters. Noah and Coolplod rode every single horse and they named their favourite horse Sammy. They thought it was the best horse they had ever seen so they decided to steal it. So they took it out of the door and it disappeared. Noah was very sad and so was Coolplod, they started to cry.
By Kacy P7.

Noah Ramsbottom and Lilyplod opened door number 2040 and it was covered with spiders and bugs and Lilyplod and Noah were scared as every step they moved they stood on bugs! And they got so scared that they lit a candle and went to door 5400 and it took them to cupcake land and there were lots of cupcakes so they ate them. Some were chocolate and some strawberry!
By Leah

Noah Ramsbottom and Honeyplod pushed open door number 14 and saw a maze. they followed all the paths and got to the middle and saw a rainbow. And then they followed the rainbow and at the end they found a pot of gold.

School visits for Early Years through Year 6!

School visits for Early Years through Year 6! (P1 to P7 in Scotland)

People often ask what work do I do with the different age groups in schools so here's a sample of what is possible!

Reception.
I like to read from Noah Ramsbottom and the Cave Elves and discuss Noah’s adventures in the Dinosaur world! It’s interactive and I love to get the children to roar and pretend to be dinosaurs. I like to get them to draw scenes from the book.

Year 1. This depends if the Year 1’s are good writers or not. I depending on this I would read from Noah Ramsbottom and the Cave Elves and either set a short art and design task (drawing and labelling a map of Noah’s journey) or a short writing task.

Year 2. I often do a writing workshop with the children, reading from ‘Cave Elves’ and getting the children to start to write their own Noah adventure. I like to get Year 2’s to share their stories with the group and I will do a short Q&A with them! Year 2’s normally have a lot of questions!

Year 3 and 4. I will work from Noah Ramsbottom and the Treasure of Skull Island. This is a book with a lot more dialogue. I set a creative writing task for the children, we share the children’s work and finish with a Q&A.

Year 5 & 6. I like to work with both of my Sam Marsh books for older children, reading passages from both books and setting a creative writing task. With these books I like to get the children into small groups to write scripts for their own Sam Marsh plays! Children plan, write, rehearse and perform the plays. And as they are writing radio plays we’re concentrating on dialogue! It’s a lot of fun and it’s good to get everyone involved. I would finish with a Q & A.

Creative Writing with me in the Yorkshire Dales, August 2013!

http://www.field-studies-council.org/individuals-and-families/courses/2013/mt/creative-writing-in-the-yorkshire-dales-40777.aspx

In the historical surroundings of Malham Tarn understand why over the years great artists, musicians and writers have been influenced by the natural splendour of the Yorkshire Dales.

Enjoy leisurely meanders around the grounds of the Field Centre watching and listening to the wildlife, it's all here, six species of fish and White Clawed Crayfish, ducks, Moorhens and Coots, various kinds wading birds, birds of prey and even a resident family of otters!

Walking further afield the imaginations of the group will be fired up by the ancient Malham Cove, once the Niagara of the Dales, and immense roofless cavern of Gordale Scar.

With such a variety of historical, geological and geographical splendours pupils can't fail to be inspired by this treasure trove on their doorsteps as Robert encourages them to use their life experience and environment to write in whatever genre they feel they want to work in, children's fiction, short stories for adults or perhaps even poetry.

Robert Bullock is a children's author, freelance writer and award winning blogger. He has had five books published. Over the past three years he has taken his inspirational workshops to schools, libraries and community groups across the UK firing up the imaginations of everyone who joins in and getting them to share the stories they always wanted to tell!
